Frequently Asked Questions

Let SpaceMaker Self-Storage answer your self-storage questions.

How is rent charged?

When you book your storage unit, you will pay the prorated amount for the first month’s rent and insurance. This amount is based upon the monthly rate divided by thirty days to come up with a daily rate, which is then multiplied by the number of days remaining in the month. Moving forward, your rent will be automatically charged on the first day of the month.

We do not prorate the last month’s rent. You must give us fourteen (14) days written notice to terminate your tenancy. To avoid being charged for another calendar month, you must give us notice by the 15th of the month.

Do you charge an Administrative Fee?

We charge a non-refundable $35 administrative fee. This fee includes a combination lock for your storage unit, which you get to keep.

Why should I use the SpaceMaker container lock?

While you don’t have to use our lock, there are some big advantages. It is a combination lock, so you don’t have to worry about keeping track of a tiny key.

If you forget the combination to your lock, you can contact our office, and we will text it to you. This way, you avoid any inconvenience and, in the worst case, a cut lock fee of $150. Lastly, these are very secure disc locks because the shackle is hidden.

What do I do if I get locked out of my unit?
How do I use the Spiderdoor Self-Storage app?

A link will be provided to you when you book. If not, we can text it to you. Then, simply follow the prompts. Note, like many apps. it must be opened on your cell phone.

With the app, you can open and close the gate and manage your entire rental process. It will make your life much easier.

How do I open the facility gate?

There are two ways. You are provided a gate access code as part of our rental confirmation. Type this code into the keypad and the gate will open.

The second way is with the Spiderdoor Self-Storage App. Once you download the app and get it set up on your cell phone, then you can open and close the gate without even getting out of your car.

How do I locate my unit?

All units are numbered. Once you arrive at the facility, find the number that corresponds to the number given to you when you rented. A map of the facility will be given to you to help you find your unit. The units are NOT in numerical order.

How do I move out?

Please provide written notice of your intent to move out by the 15th of the month to avoid being charged rent for the next month. We do not prorate your final month.

There are a couple of ways to let us know that you are ready to move out. You can email us at hello@spacemakermobile.com, or you can log into your storage account through our website and click on the move-out button.

Upon move out, the unit must be completely empty, swept broom clean, and all of your items must be removed from the premises, or a $150 cleaning fee will be charged.

Is insurance required?

Yes, insurance is required. If you do not purchase the insurance we offer through our partner Storage Protector, then you must have your own renter’s or homeowner’s insurance.

If I have homeowner’s insurance, why would I purchase separate Self-Storage Insurance? What are the benefits of using the SP Program for Storage Unit insurance instead of Homeowner's insurance to protect your stored items?
  • Provides broad coverage for items stored within a Self-Storage unit.
  • Covers your belongings while they are in transit.
  • Has a low $100 deductible for coverage up to $10,000 and only $350 for coverages over $10,000.
  • Prevents the risk of cancellation or rate increase to your homeowner's policy should a claim occur.
  • Eliminates the need to add extra coverage or an insurance rider to your homeowner's policy.
Why are SpaceMaker storage units the best?

SpaceMaker Storage Units, aka the Vault! Each of our units is a self-contained storage vault, providing the utmost in self-storage safety, security, and easy access. Here’s why:

  • Drive-up access
    • All our self-storage vaults have drive-up access, making your loading and unloading a breeze.
  • No shared walls with adjacent units
    • Like the Pods for portable storage or wood vaults popular with moving companies, these are completely independent units. If there’s a spill, mold, or even just a smell from a neighboring unit, then it’s not going to affect your unit or any other units.
  • Fully enclosed
    • Vaults are encapsulated from top to bottom. Some traditional storage facilities have “open tops” where they might have a caged ceiling. This can allow pests and smells from neighboring units to get into your stuff. That can’t happen with vaults.
  • Elevated
    • Vaults are less susceptible to water damage than traditional storage because they aren’t at ground level. They’re raised up just enough to give them a level of protection against water from storms or from a leak in a neighboring unit.
  • Fire Resistant
    • Vaults have a full steel construction that makes them a storage-sized strongbox. For this reason, they are naturally fire-resistant.
  • Ventilated
    • Small air vents help to prevent high humidity from damaging your belongings. There’s a mesh covering on these to keep out unwanted small pests. And the vents are too small for any larger animals to even get into.
  • Barn doors
    • Barns doors made of solid steel add another layer of security when compared to lighter-weight roll-up doors. Plus, they create more usable space within the unit, which is a better value for the renter.
Who are storage vaults for?

A self-storage vault is for anyone who wants a little more separation between your storage unit and the unit next to yours. If fire resistance or pest resistance is an issue that’s important to you, then you might want to look into getting a vault.
